Oodles of Noodles

Today we have 3 noodle plates for you. First up is a non-noodle dish. We got a few different varieties of potatoes from the farmers market. I don't remember their names, but one type's pink, another's yellow, and the other's purple. Each has its own subtle difference in taste and texture.

We had tomato base curry sauce with fresh corn to go with the potatoes.

This is udon noodles on sauce flavored with miso, chilli, and lemongrass.

Here we have stir fried wheat flour noodle flavored with mushroom, soy, and sesame sauce. Mixed in are nappa cabbage and chanterelle mushrooms.

Lastly, we have soba noodle with shiitake based sauce. The sweet tomatoes went well with the dish, as it lightened up the taste with its refreshing sweetness. You can see the tomatoes came in different colors: red, yellow, orange, green, and purple. I was surprised to find that the orange and green ones were very sweet (like a fruit).

Restaurant update:

We have gotten back the final draft of the lease from the landlord and have signed it. On Monday we're handing over the signed lease and deposit check to the landlord. We're also meeting up with the architect at the property so that he can check the place out before starting the architectural drawings.

Of the those three potato varieties, I like the pink ones the best and the purple ones the least. While the purple ones have a unusual color, they are lacking in taste. I love the taste of the pink ones. Strong and potato-y, yet rich.

I am surprised to read that the green and orange tomatoes were sweet. I was imagining the red and purple ones to be sweet and yellow and orange to be bland and the green to be tart. Guess it is true what they say about judging a book by its cover! What was the purple one like?

Oh, the farmers' market in your area sell great stuffs, don't they! The potatoes all look interesting to me. I'm so gonna visit Portland to find out more about these fresh produce.

As well, do you mind sharing the recipe a bit? I'm eager to try, especially the sauce that has miso, lemongrass on it. You don't have to go into details if you mind.

Thanks ya. If you mind, it's okay. I understand as you're working on a restaurant.

holly,

Sounds like there's a good variety of potatoes where you're at. :o)

Regarding the tomatoes, I was imagining the same thing you were too. The red ones were actually the least sweet. The orange and green ones were the sweetest tomatoes I've ever tasted. Purple ones were okay, just a tad sweeter than red ones.

Hey guess we'll see you and your boyfriend tomorrow at Hoda's. Looking forward to meeting up with you guys! :o)

greenapple,

Yup, can find some interesting stuff at the farmers market sometimes. It's not year round though, no farmers market in the winter.

Oh the recipe for the soup with miso and lemongrass...hmmmm, man, I don't know...you'll just have to come over when we're open to try it, hehe.

k,

Ah yeah, we're always grateful to have wonderful readers on the blog. Of course we'll respond to your comments. :o)

We'll be posting photos of the place soon, and you'll eventually see a restaurant being built up and comming alive.

Hi Dennis and Phan,

Those noodle dishes look absolutely enticing. I'd love to try those sometime. The purple sweet potatoes look like the ones we get here. They are usually very sweet, but quite starchy.

I'm glad that things are moving along with the restaurant. Can't wait to see that place!

adam,

Too bad you're not further up north; daylight hours in the northern hemisphere here are getting shorter everyday as winter nears, hence shorter fasting days. ;o)
